IN POLICE SHOOTING OF BROTHERS…A FLOOD OF COMMENTS

READERS BLAME GOV’T, WANT BODY WORN CAMERAS, END TO POLICE KILLINGS

A flood of comments has come in to the North Coast Times Facebook page over the police shooting death of two brothers in Steerfield, St Ann, on Monday.

Brothers Romeo Henry and Devian Henry were shot and killed by police who entered their house about 5:30, Monday morning, April 20, 2026.

There was a verbal confrontation between the police from Area 5 (outside of St Ann), and many residents who insisted there was no shootout and said the police murdered the young men. ANGRY RESIDENTS BLOCK POLICE PATH AFTER FATAL SHOOTINGS

The comments on the Facebook page ranged widely. Some lay the regular police killings at the feet of the Prime Minister. Others said police should be using body-worn cameras, and still others cynically asked why the fuss over these killings since it has been going on all over Jamaica for months now.

There were some voices, too, who said the police were doing a good job, and in this case, as well. There were thers who said they wanted more information and would not swear for anyone.

Here are some of the comments. There has been limited editing of them. The full lists are on the North Coast Times Facebook page (in response to three stories). It’s still not too late to add yours.

“Who remember what the PM did say?”

Nick Toward said: “It’s about time the police were made to wear body cameras.”

David Lawrence is among more than a dozen who support the wearing of cameras.

Shawn Stephenson is of a similar view. He says, “There is absolutely no reason that, in 2026, a police force that is committed to transparency in serving and protecting should be conducting these operations without fully functioning body-worn cameras, which will clear up any discrepancies and ambiguity.”

(Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake)

Tricia Jarrett asks the head of the Police, “What happen to the body Camera, Our Commissioner?”

Some respondents express condolences to the families and say God will be the final judge. Veveta Campbell Edwards is one such. She says,

Unruly Quarrie says this is not new. “Dwl. it reach ur door step now. Nuff gone before him same way y yuh Neva duh di same fi dem.”

Others put a direct political spin on it.

Some suggest people don’t like the police.

Ellis Ellis says, “A bet if a did gunman kill them no investigation wouldn’t a gwane an ppl wouldn’t a rebel, but because is law enforcement sigh, smh.”

Elizabeth Morris asks a question.“Look how the report is conflicting, if the two men pointed guns at the officers, how they only found one gun? Where is the other gun?”
