TRAFFIC NUISANCE AT RUNAWAY BAY

Ill-fitting drainage grille contributes to daily traffic snarl

RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann; Aug 19, 2026

There are increasing complaints from motorists about a drainage grille that has sunken below the road surface, forcing vehicles to slow down near the Runaway Bay (Cross Roads) intersection with the North Coast Highway.

That slowing down to navigate the sunken space causes a reduced number of vehicles to make it through the traffic lights when they change. This leads to a backup on the Runaway Bay to Brown’s Town Road, in the lane heading into the traffic lights, as well as for vehicles coming from the Coast Highway and headed south. Motorists tell the North Coast Times this has been going on for months now

Because of regular illegal parking outside the supermarket there and on the sidewalk next to the Post Office, the congestion at this intersection is much worse than it could be. A police station around the corner makes no difference to the management of the space.
