DISPUTE AFTER DRIVER TRIED TO AVOID POTHOLE IN ISLINGTON
ISLINGTON, St Mary; May 7, 2026
The St. Mary Police have charged a man and a woman after what is said to be a road rage incident in which two people were chopped.
The incident happened near the Horace Clarke High School in Islington, in the parish, on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
Reports to the North Coast Times are that two vehicles were heading in opposite directions when one swerved to avoid a pothole. The other vehicle was reportedly forced off its path and fell into a pothole.
The occupants of the vehicle that fell into the pothole emerged and an argument developed between them and the two others who were in a Subaru motorcar.
During the incident, a 29-year-old man sustained injuries to his wrist and head, while a 65-year-old woman received multiple chop wounds. Both victims, who had been travelling in the Subaru, were treated at the hospital and later released.
Following investigations by the police, 27-year-old farmer, Jevaun Phillips and 33-year-old Tonilyn Blackburn, self-employed, both of Roadside, Islington, were arrested and charged in connection with the incident. They were charged with wounding with intent and malicious destruction of property. Investigators also revealed that both accused had outstanding warrants.
Warrants are for breaches of the Road Traffic Act. Jevaun Phillips was taken to the Port Maria Court on Thursday regarding the warrants
The St. Mary Police are encouraging members of the public to practise conflict resolution and exercise patience and restraint when faced with disputes or disagreements. Acts of violence continue to place lives at risk and negatively impact communities.
