Not all fathers or men are deadbeat
By Sharon Seymour
Good day readers,
I trust you are doing well despite all the unpleasant happenings in society.
The Third Sunday of June 2023 is installed as Fathers’ Day.
I have read, viewed and observed some citations with reference to Fathers’ Day. As an educator at FCF Basic School, an Early Childhood Development Instructor at BVTC- Heart Trust NSTA, and a Women’s Ministry Director (COGOP), it saddens me to see the disinterest towards celebrating fathers or men. I am cognizant that many fathers/ men play a pivotal role in anchoring families, and have contributed immensely to nation building.
Shouldn’t they be celebrated with fanfare too?
Women, mothers, female leaders and pastors, l implore you to begin or continue to play your part in showing appreciation to the fathers/men.
Society has not placed much emphasis on recognizing fathers, and we want to be agents of transformation in this regard.
I will not dispute the idea that some fathers have shirked their responsibilities. In so doing, they have not played any role in their child’s or children’s nurturing and well-being.
But, should all fathers be penalized for those who have failed in the area of fatherhood?
No !
Let us go above and beyond to laud fathers without stigmatizing anyone. Our act of kindness can have far-reaching effects in motivating people to be their best selves!
I encourage you to showcase fathers, using social gatherings, pictorials, videos, radio broadcasts, social media platforms, newsletters, magazines, and other communication modalities.
Let us raise the bar and change the widespread narrative which incites minuscule or no celebration of fathers/ men.
