The case involving 38-year-old Clifton Irons, a St Mary man arrested and slapped with the charge of wounding with intent, is set to resume on Thursday, August 28, 2014 after the matter was called up for mention in the Port Maria RM court on Thursday, May 29, 2014. Irons is before the court for nearly two years now after it was alleged that he used a decorative block to hit basic school teacher, Jacqueline Samuels over the head. The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Timothy Burke Basic School in Lucky Hill, St Mary. Irons is said to have used a block to hit Samuels in the head after a dispute developed between them when he had gone to the school to pick up his son and saw the 5-year-old lad with a mop and bucket, cleaning his urine from a classroom floor. Samuels, who was knocked unconscious, was hospitalized for over three weeks where she underwent medical treatment including scans and surgery to add plates to the damaged section of the skull. Irons turned himself into the police following the incident. After weeks of attending court, irons was offered bail in the sum of $200,000 and has since taken up the bail offer and obtained the services of a legal aid lawyer. Samuels has also returned to teaching at the said institution but is still on medication to rebuild her blood count. Last Thursday, the court was told that a medical report that was needed for the file to be completed, was obtained but the case then suffered another delay as the statement from the teacher, Jacqueline Samuels, that was tendered was not on file. She was ordered to produce another statement. When the matter resumes, the possibility of sentencing is to be considered.
