MURDER IN DISCOVERY BAY Man stabbed after his woman complains about another man at party

One man is dead and another is in police lock up after an early morning dispute at a dance in Woods Town, near Farm Town, Discovery Bay.

Dead is Rudolf Shantilope, otherwise called ‘Shanty’, driver employed to the Celebration plant, Discovery Bay, St Ann and of Jacks Lodge district.

Police have in custody for the murder, a man from Woods Town.

In a release the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that: “Reports from the Discovery Bay Police are that about 1:00 a.m., Saturday, Shantilope’s female companion was involved in a dispute with a man, when he intervened and was stabbed several times.”

The police were alerted and Shantilope was taken to hospital where he died while being treated. The release further stated that “the accused man was subsequently taken into custody.”

However, the North Coast Times has been told details of the story leading to the death of Shantilope who is being described as a quiet, peaceful man.

Reports are Shantilope and a woman attended a dance. Sometime just before 1 a.m.  the woman complained of a man who was “rubbing up”  on her. The woman loudly protested and shoved the man away.

Shantilope scolded the man, telling him he should not have done that but the man took exception to the remarks. Another man in the dance also told the man he was wrong. The man who had been accused by the woman then went outside of the venue and returned with a half machete and stabbed at and slashed the second man who had verbally come to the support of the woman. He was not seriously hurt.

Shantilope advised the woman that he wanted to leave for the sake of peace. He had observed the attack on the other man. Shantilope went into a bus he had driven and, with the engine running, was waiting on the woman. The man who she had complained about ran to the bus and made attempts to stab Shantilope through the driver’s window. However, Shantilope moved away from the driver’s seat to the other side of the bus. Some reports say he picked up a bottle and threw it at the man. It’s not clear how the man entered the bus, but Shantilope was stabbed at least twice.

Police told North Coast Times Monday that the man will be charged with murder by Tuesday, July 18.
