Case of ‘science’ bike and assault still in court

A St Ann man who has several matters before the court was again remanded into custody when he appeared before parish judge Vaughn Facey in the St Ann Parish Court.

Charge for assaulting two persons is Brandon Stanley of Lewis District, in Brown’s Town St Ann.

Allegations are that Stanley had assaulted a man and a woman on February 19, causing them to experience body pains.  During the fracas which caused such injuries, it is also alleged that a stone was thrown at the male complainant’s motor vehicle, causing damage to it.

On a prior court date, Stanley expressed his frustration over a motor bike he claimed the male complainant took from him.

“A my bike Your Honour, a me buy it… this guy have mi bike, dem capture mi bike an have it ova them yaad, dem can science it,” Stanley said.

He demanded that the bike be handed over to his grandmother.

He then changed his argument to say “these guys will mash up my bike…it nuh have any use to mi at this moment suh let them keep it till mi come out mi collect it”.

The male complainant had admitted to the court that he indeed had taken the bike.

When Stanley was brought to court on Tuesday, July 11, the court was informed by the prosecution that the bike in question was returned, however information was received that the bike was in a bad condition.

An attorney, who spoke on the behalf of Stanley, said she was instructed that the bike was a new 2016 motor bike and that it is damaged and has been “driven in the Runaway Bay area” of St Ann by the complainants.

Judge Facey in his response said it is to be clarified whether or not the bike was destroyed by the complainants or if they had taken it in that condition.

The male complainant had previously indicated to the court claims of the bike and other debris being used to block the road on the day of the fracas and that missiles were also hurled at him and his vehicle by Stanley. According to the male complainant this was when his vehicle was damaged and he had kept the bike “to sell” in case Stanley doesn’t cover the cost for the repair of his vehicle.

Stanley has other pending matter before the court and for that reason the matter is expected to be dealt with as soon as possible. A trial date was set for September 22.
