PRINCIPAL SAYS SPIRIT OF STAFF, STUDENTS BROKEN
ST ANN’S BAY, St Ann; June 30, 2026
Chalky Hill Primary and Infant School, St Ann, was broken into on Monday night, June 29, 2026, and cash as well as supplies were stolen.
What was considered a threatening message was left beneath a picture of the principal.
Chairman of the Board, Councillor Genevor Gordon Bailey, and Principal Christine Badal McBean have condemned the break-in.

Mrs McBean told the North Coast Times that this latest break-in had dampened the spirits of the students and teachers who had decided against going ahead with summer school there. “They don’t feel safe; I don’t feel safe,” she said.

The principal said school closing exercises, however, would continue this week, including report day on Friday.
Mrs McBean said there have been repeated break-ins at the school. She said she had written to the Ministry of Education “over and over” asking for a security guard and a watchman.
Board Chairman Councillor Bailey said: “Our schools should be safe spaces for our children to learn, grow, and thrive. To have that trust violated and school property damaged or stolen is unacceptable.” In a release to the North Coast Times, she said the break-in “ disrupts learning, places added strain on our teachers and staff, and takes resources away from our students who need them most.” She called on the community to provide any information they have to assist police in their investigations.

Reports are that the secretary’s office was broken into and a multimedia projector was stolen. Cash and other items were also stolen by the thieves who ransacked cabinets and office spaces.
