‘WE DID IT’ – TRIUMPHANT MONEAGUE COLLEGE VALEDICTORY CLASS

EMOTIONAL VALEDICTORY SERVICE FOR CLASS OF 2026

MONEAGUE, St Ann; May 1, 2026

The triumphant sentiment “We did it” rang out through the Gloria Johnson Multi-purpose Auditorium at the Moneague College, St Ann, on Thursday afternoon, April 30, 2026, as students of the class of 2026 gave praise in their valedictory service.

They have not completed their final exams for their various courses, but the students, numbering more than 200, across three campuses and three faculties — Social Sciences, Education and Science and Technology, gave thanks to God for their progress so far,  in a spellbinding service. .

The Valedictory Service on Thursday followed an exciting and thoughtful Research Day on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. RESEARCH DAY AT THE MONEAGUE COLLEGE

The opening hymn was Onward Christian Soldiers, setting the tone for the service, as the College Band accompanied the audience on this as well as other selections during the worship service.

Members of the Debating and Pubic Speaking Society raised their voices and recited their piece about progress at the college, with the refrain “We Did It” to which their colleagues in the audience responded “We Did It”. There were more phrases of triumph and positive reflection, from the Society, including: “We are victorious. We survived the struggle”. They were roundly applauded

Principal Howard Isaacs had a charge to the valedictory class, with five points. He grounded them in Bible teaching:

  1. Walk in Purpose
  2. Pursue Excellence
  3. Stand with integrity
  4. Persevere with courage, and

5 Serve with humility.

Mr Isaacs reminded the students that at their regular Monday assembly at the College, on its three campuses, the faculty and staff tried to instil Christian values among the students. “More than ever, you need the Christ”, now, he said. Mr Isaacs encouraged them that, though this was not graduation and the end of their courses was yet to come, they should be positive and do well in their exams and come back for graduation in November.

The sermon was a high-energy, high-emotion one by Reverend Marvin Fairweather, Pastor at the Brown’s Town Tabernacle. Referring to the theme of the service, “Pursuing Excellence in a Changing World”, he urged the valedictory class to consider that God was unchanging. He said they were in their winning season and that in this changing world, God was concerned about them. “Jesus cares about you when nobody else cares,” the pastor said. “Trust the Unchanging God in a changing world.”
