ATTORNEY ON FRAUD CHARGE APPEARING IN COURT

COPS CHARGE ST ANN LAWYER IN $8-M FRAUD CASE

BROWN’S TOWN, St Ann; May 1, 2026

St Ann-based attorney Debby-Ann Samuels is appearing in court in the Corporate Area, today, Friday, May 1, 2026, on a fraud charge involving $8 Million.

Detectives from the Fraud Squad and Financial Crime Investigation Division (FSFCID) charged Ms Samuels with fraudulent conversion on Wednesday, April 29, after apprehending her in St James. This came after they had listed her as a person of interest they were seeking.

According to police reports, Ms Samuels, who had an office in Brown’s Town, was representing a client for a real estate transaction in St. Ann. The sale was completed in 2024, and the proceeds, over JM$8 million, were paid into Samuel’s account.

The police were contacted when Samuels failed to disburse the funds to her client, and an investigation was subsequently launched. All efforts to contact Samuels were unsuccessful.

She was named a Person of Interest on Wednesday, April 22. Samuels was later apprehended on Monday, April 27, in St. James by members of the Specialised Operations Branch after a brief standoff with the police.

On Wednesday, April 29, Samuels was interviewed in the presence of her attorney and was later charged.

She is scheduled to appear in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on Friday, May 1.
