MINISTER WARNS AGAINST SIGNING DOCUMENTYS FOR UNKNOWN PEOPLE
PT ANTONIO, Portland; Feb 22, 2026
Twenty-eight new Justices of the Peace (JPs) were commissioned in Portland Thursday morning, February 29, moving their number for the parish to three hundred and eight.
The event was held at Tim Bamboo Hotel.

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Delroy Chuck encouraged the news Justices of the Peace to read and be informed and to be involved in their communities. He warned them not to sign documents for persons they do not know. He said even when people claim they don’t know any other JP or beg for help, the JP should not sign documents or issue recommendations for people they do not know. “I certainly believe you must get as well-informed as possible. And you’re not going to get well-informed by just sitting and doing nothing. You must read widely.”

Custos of Portland Lincoln Thaxter welcomed the new Justices and told them there is work to be done. “This is a very significant occasion because right now, all of you who are going to be commissioners of Justices, you are bringing as a member a sense of value added to the party…We have to work as a team to tackle the most pervasive and challenging problems in our society and in our time,” the Custos said.

(DSP Romeo Henry)
DSP Romeo Henry, representing Superintendent Ainsley McCarthy, encouraged the justices to be persons of good character.
Twenty-six of the new justices were commissioned and received their certificates and seal, moving the number of justices in the parish to three hundred and eight.
