COP CHARGED FOR MURDER IN ST MARY LOVE ROW

POLICEMAN GOES TO COURT THIS WEEK FOR LOVER’S MURDER

 PORT MARIA, St Mary; July 22, 2024

 The policeman accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend, a 21-year-old St Mary teacher, has been charged with murder.

 Charged is Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) officer, 22-year-old Constable Patrick Walters.

Walters has been charged with the murder of D’Jonnay Graham, also called Moya, who was fatally shot at her home on June 25, 2025, in Essex District, Richmond, St. Mary.

The incident was investigated by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).

INDECOM stated that it had prepared and submitted a report for a ruling to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

The ODPP, in its ruling to INDECOM, dated July 17, 2025, indicated that Constable Walters should be charged for the offences of:

  • Using a Firearm to Commit a Felony, contrary to s.14(2) Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act
  • Murder contrary to common law

In a statement Tuesday, July 22, INDECOM said Constable Walters will remain in police custody and should be placed before the court this week.

Reports to the North Coast Times are that about 9:15 p.m., Wednesday, July 25,  in Flint River, Essex District, the police constable shot dead Ms Graham, also called Moya, and then turned the firearm on himself. However, he was not killed by the bullet to the head and was taken to hospital.

According to sources, the policeman and Graham were involved in a heated argument in which he accused her of infidelity. They had been arguing from earlier that day when they were in Kingston together.

At a wake for Ms Graham on July 3, two people were shot and killed by men on a motorcycle. There has been no arrest made in connection with that incident.

Constable Walters is the 40th Officer to be charged in relation to an INDECOM investigation, over the past 19 months – January 1, 2024, and July 21, 2025. Since 2024, ten (10) JCF officers and (1) JDF officer have been charged in relation to ten fatal shooting cases.
