CURFEW IMPOSED IN ORACABESSA

TWO CURFEWS RUNNING IN ST MARY TO CURTAIL VIOLENCE

ORACABESSA, St Mary; Feb 25, 2025

Another curfew has been imposed in St Mary, as police step up their anti-crime activities in the parish.

This time, the curfew has been clamped on a section of Marson Town, Oracabessa, restricting movement in the area. The 48-hour curfew took effect at 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 25 and will end, if not extended on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

Meantime, a curfew in the Iterboreale area, near Annotto Bay in the south east of St Mary has been in force since Saturday evening and is expected to end Wednesday evening, February 26, at 6 o’clock.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said the curfew in sections of Marson Town, St. Mary, is “part of a strategic effort to curb escalating gang violence and criminal activity.”

The police said further: “The decision to impose this curfew follows a surge of gang activities in the area increasing the likelihood of shootings and other violent crimes. This has led to heightened fear among residents and a decline in community trust. Immediate action is necessary to prevent further unrest and ensure public safety.”
