The other scholarship presented came from Laur Nevers Wilson who works at Howard University, Washington DC. Ms Nevers recounted how she was drawn to and impressed by Moneague College,  as a child long before the time she could attend.

According to Ms Nevers, when she was a child, in the early mornings before Christmas Moneague Teachers’ College students came through the neighbourhood with candles and singing carols. “They sounded like angels and l really wanted to be part of that someday.”

She said her father, a farmer was involved in supplying farm produce to the  college, and her mother often provided meals for students who were friends of her sister Shirley James who was also a student at the time.
