GAYLE, St Mary, May 2, 2026
Despite intermittent showers, the annual Gayle Carnival drew hundreds of patrons to the St Mary town on Sunday, April 26, with organisers hailing the event as a “huge success.”
The streets came alive with colourful costumes, pulsating soca music, and revellers who refused to let the weather dampen the vibes. Patrons danced under umbrellas and raincoats as sound systems and live performers kept the energy high throughout the afternoon into the evening.

“Rain couldn’t stop us. Gayle Carnival is about community, culture, and resilience, and the people showed up in their numbers,” said a member of the organising committee.
Vendors reported brisk sales, noting that the crowd remained steady despite the showers. Security presence was strong, and organisers reported no major incidents.
The event, a staple on the St Mary entertainment calendar, featured local and regional acts, masquerades, and food stalls showcasing the best of Jamaican cuisine.
“The turnout exceeded our expectations given the forecast. This shows the love people have for Gayle Carnival,” the organiser added.
Plans are already underway for next year’s staging.
