DRIVER IN OCHI FATAL CRASH HAD NO LICENCE

CHARGED WITH DANGEROUS DRIVING AND HAVING NO LICENCE, INSURANCE

OCHO RIOS, St Ann; June 18, 2026

Police have charged the driver of a car that hit down and killed a woman in Ocho Rios on Saturday morning, June 13, 2026.

Charged is 27-year-old Rodney Thompson of Geddes Town, Free Hill, St Mary.

Dead is 62-year-old Claudette Thorpe of Petersfield District, St Mary.

Police have charged Thompson with: causing death by dangerous driving; operating the vehicle without a driver’s licence and having no insurance.

The North Coast Times reported that about 6:10 Saturday morning, Thompson was driving a 2014 Toyota Mark X  motorcar in an easterly direction along Main Street, in the vicinity of Big Ben Supermarket, Ocho Rios St Ann, when he lost control of the vehicle. The car ran across the road, mounted the sidewalk, struck Ms Thompson, and then smashed a utility pole. WOMAN KILLED IN OCHI CRASH

Ms Thorpe received several injuries and was pronounced dead at St Ann’s Bay Hospital.

Police reported that the driver fled the scene but was later taken to the station in Ocho Rios.

He was charged on Thursday afternoon, June 19, 2026.
