STILL NO PIPED WATER FOR HUNDREDS IN ST ANN

NWC CONTINUES TRUCKING,  PROMISES RELIEF IN SE ST ANN BY MONDAY

CLAREMONT, St Ann; June 26, 2026

Hundreds of residents in south east St Ann who depend on water supply from the Claremont Re-lift Station will be without water in their pipes for yet another weekend as the pump remains down.

However, the National Water Commission (NWC) says repairs should be partially completed by Monday afternoon, June 29, to restore supplies to some communities. But the system will still not be back at full capacity, the NWC said.

Residents in a number of communities have been without a regular water supply for weeks now, after the failure of the pump at Claremont. These communities include Alderton, Golden Grove, Steerfield, Orange Park, Barrett Hall, Carton Mountain, Lydford, Ramble, Trycee, , Coultart, Rural Retreat and Claremont township.

The NWC last week issued a schedule for the delivery of trucked water to several communities.

The North Coast Times contacted the Commission about the nature of the problem and when restoration was likely.

But after several days, the NWC issued a release, Friday, June 26,  stating, among other things that “Customers in Claremont, St. Ann, are advised that restoration activities are now at an advanced stage, with the NWC technical teams making significant progress towards the return of operations on, or before Monday, June 29, 2026, at 3 p.m.”

It said, however, “The system will return at a reduced capacity of approximately 60%, due to electro-mechanical works that are still ongoing on the motor at the National Water Commission (NWC) Claremont Relift #2 facility.

(Dr Kenneth Russell says trucking is not good enough)

MP for South East St Ann, Dr Kenneth Russell, earlier this week, Monday, June 22, said water reliability and supply issues were widespread in the constituency, affecting Moneague, Thatch Hill, and Claremont areas.

However, he said, “The most severe impact is currently being felt in communities served by the Claremont Well, which has been out of operation since May 31. The system serves Claremont, Beechamville, Coultart, Alderton, Golden Grove, Steerfield, Orange Park, Barrett Hall, Carton Mountain, and surrounding communities, leaving thousands of residents without their normal piped water supply.”

Dr Russel expressed appreciation for the trucking of water to the affected communities, but said trucking can not replace a reliable piped water system.
