SE St Mary MP Christopher Brown Welcomes Works but Notes Disruption to Lives from Slow Pace

MP for South East St Mary Christopher Brown is seeking to get action to reduce the discomfort and inconvenience of residents of Camberwell and Georges Hill caused by works in the area.
The infrastructure work is under the Government’s SPARK programme and involves retaining wall and road works that have reportedly resulted in difficulties of people going about their business.

He said, “I am deeply concerned about the slow pace of the Camberwell SPARK road project and the significant disruption caused to residents of Camberwell and Georges Hill by the current retaining-wall works.”
According to Mr Brown, before the works had started, he had stressed to the National Works Agency (NWA) the need for a properly drivable alternative route so that residents could continue to access their communities.
“Unfortunately, that was not adequately provided. For approximately a month, residents have faced serious difficulties accessing their homes, schools, healthcare, water and basic supplies. Camberwell Primary School has had to operate remotely, water trucks have been unable to properly access the communities, and residents requiring medical attention have faced additional challenges getting to hospital,” he stated. Mr Brown says work on the Rosemount alternative access road has been inconsistent. There are also days when little or no work appears to be taking place on the main project,” Brown said.
He says he welcomed the SPARK investment and the improvement of the road infrastructure. However, he called for urgent attention from NWA and SPARK “I am therefore calling on the leadership of the NWA and the SPARK programme to give this project urgent attention,” Brown said in a release.
