It took extra-time for Progressive Football Club to beat St. George’s Sports Club 4-3 in the finals of the Portland Football Association Portland Co-operative Credit Union Under-20. The dramatic encounter played out on Friday, June 20 at the Boundbrook pavilion, Port Antonio, with the lead swinging from one side to the other. St. Aubyn Tracey of Progressive put them in the lead in the 10th minute. That lead was cancelled out by Kevon Grey of St. George’s in the 11th minute. St. George’s Cecil Bell stepped up the pressure on Progressive when he scored in the 32nd minute bringing the score to 2-1. Before half time, Theodore Dunkley equalized for Progressive in the 40th minute. St. George’s ended the first half one goal ahead of Progressive as Cordel Kennedy scored in the 44th minute bringing the score to 3-2. Both sides missed chances at the start of the second half before a corner kick from Progressive’s Emile Byfield was headed home by Theodore Dunkley, making the score 3-3. The sides remained locked at 3-3 at full time, forcing extra time play. Joel Greene-Burke scored the winning goal for Progressive 10 minutes into extra time. St. George’s received four red cards during ill tempered play in extra time.
