Residents from Parry Town and Pimento Walk, just outside Ochi Rios, St Ann had a visit from police officers from Area 2, members of the church and even overseas volunteers, on Wednesday, June 18. The group, brought together by deputy superintendent for Ocho Rios Troyville Haughton, went to the communities after recent events that climaxed with a double murder in Pimento Walk, Sunday June 1, when 31-year old delivery truck drivers, Horace Hamilton and his colleague 39-years old, Robert Blake were shot dead. The police say they want the people to know they are resolute in fighting crime and protecting the people of the communities. The Area 2 police were joined by representatives of the JPS, Registrar General’s Department RGD, more than 40 volunteers from the United State and some other agencies. As they walked throughout the community, they gave kind words of support and prayed with residents of Pimento Walk trying to bring back hope and reduce fear. Deputy Superintendent of police and also in charge of administration for St Ann, Dwight Powell, told the North Coast Times that “Today we are in the Parry Town, Pimento Walk Community just to bring some reassurance to the residents in the community. In the past couple of weeks there was a double killing of two truck men shot dead but now we have the culprit in custody and are getting reliable information from the community.” Dept Supt Powell also reported that the police will be targeting the hot spots in the community. “So far, on the ground we have another deputy superintendent of police and also assistant superintendent, three inspectors and twenty other police. It’s a good contingent of members from the police in St Ann, so far it has been overwhelming and the citizens appreciate our presence.”
