BAHIA PRINCIPE REOPENS IN RUNAWAY BAY DEC 1

After Year-Long Renovation, All-Inclusive Brand Offers 647 Rooms, with 1,000 Jobs on Offer Under ‘Escape ’ and ‘Explore’ Themes

RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann, Nov 5, 2026

Bahia Principe Runaway Bay is to reopen Dec 1, 2026 under a new name and theme, Bahia Principe Explore.

The hotel, formerly named Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica, is to reopen following what the hotel group calls a comprehensive renovation carried out over approximately one year. The reopening brings 647 rooms back into operation and approximately 1,000 jobs on Jamaica’s north coast ahead of the winter tourism season.

The hotel was closed following Hurricane Melissa last year. The hotel is recruiting staff across all categories.

It will feature three swimming pools and seven restaurants the Route 66 concept and other casual dining options.

The entertainment and activities package, they say will include Jamaican language, history and rhythms through patois classes, dance classes and “Xaymaca The Show”. Live music, karaoke, beach parties and sports will complement the programme, while a Kids Club, waterpark, creative activities, bike tour and Bahia Principe Village will provide further choices.

The hotel says in a release, “The property is part of the Bahia Hotels  Explore sub-brand and is designed for families and groups who travel together and want to enjoy their vacation at their own pace. Renovations cover rooms, common areas, dining, leisure and entertainment spaces, with a stronger connection to Jamaican culture and local identity.”

The themes explore and escape are expected to help visitor decisions. “Explore is aimed at families, groups and travellers who want to combine relaxation, leisure, entertainment and a connection with local culture, while Escape is geared toward an adult audience seeking a more relaxed, sophisticated stay focused on disconnecting,” Bahia said.

This initiative is part of the 50% joint venture between Hyatt and Piñero, which manages the Bahia Principe resorts and owns the brand.

Julio Pérez, CEO of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, highlights the reopening as a significant step in strengthening the company’s presence in Jamaica.
