Shooting Occurred in Dispute Over Vehicle Being Examined; Mechanic Shot Too

Police are investigating the shooting death, by an off-duty soldier, of a man in Annotto Bay, St Mary.
Dead is 24-year-old businessman Tajay Wilson of Iteboreale District, Annotto Bay. A 45-year-old mechanic was injured during the incident.
Many details are still not known but the St. Mary Police say the incident took place in Top Bay on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
Reports are that Wilson, an off-duty member of the Jamaica Defence Force, and the mechanic were examining a motor vehicle when a dispute developed between Wilson and the soldier. During the confrontation, the soldier, who is a licensed firearm holder, reportedly discharged his firearm, hitting Wilson and the mechanic.
Police say Wilson was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The mechanic sustained an injury to his left elbow and received medical treatment.
The firearm was seized for ballistic testing, the Jamaica Defence Force was notified, and investigations are continuing.
The police report did not say what had happened to the JDF soldier.
