Security Measure ‘Necessary’ in Response to Increased Criminal Activity — Police

A ‘rolling’ curfew, first imposed September 10 in Islington, has been extended to Tuesday evening, September 22, at 6 p.m.
The curfew, which would have expired Sunday, September 20, was extended for a further 48 hours, according to the police communication arm, CCN.
The curfew in a section of the Islington area, covering sections of Robin’s Bay and Strawberry Fields, was first imposed September 10, following a triple murder in the area Wednesday, September 9. Three men from the area were shot dead in a bar. Up to now, police have made no breakthrough.
In a statement, at the weekend the St. Mary Police said the curfews being implemented in sections of Islington “have become necessary in response to an increase in violent crimes and other criminal activities affecting the area and surrounding communities.”
It said, further, “Police investigations and intelligence-gathering efforts have identified concerns involving rival criminal factions, conflicts linked to lottery scamming, motor vehicle theft, house break-ins and the movement of criminal elements seeking to use otherwise peaceful communities as safe havens.”
“The curfews form part of a broader policing strategy aimed at disrupting criminal networks, restricting the movement of persons involved in illegal activities, apprehending wanted persons and persons of interest, recovering illegal firearms and stolen property, and preventing further acts of violence.”
The boundaries of the curfew are as follows:
NORTH: From the Baccasswood community in the vicinity of the Zion Hill main road, extending east through a vegetated section of the Strawberry Fields community.
EAST: From a vegetated section of the Strawberry Fields community, extending south through a vegetated section of the Rosend community.
SOUTH: From a vegetated section of the Rosend community, extending west along the Rosend main road and continuing towards the White Hall main road.
WEST: From the White Hall main road in the vicinity of the entrance to the Islington community, extending north to the back entrance of the Baccasswood community in the vicinity of the Zion Hill main road.
During the hours of the curfew, persons within the boundaries of the curfew are required to remain indoors unless otherwise authorised by the person in charge of enforcing the curfew.
