NWC KEEPS PROMISE

HUNDREDS IN SE ST ANN GET WATER IN PIPES, SOME STILL WAITING

CLAREMONT, St Ann; June 29, 2026

Hundreds of residents in southeast St Ann started receiving water in their pipes at the weekend following weeks of no piped water because of a broken-down pump at Claremont.

The piped water returned starting as early as Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2026, following a National Water Commission (NWC) promise that residents would get water by Monday afternoon, June 29, 2026, with the repair of the pump in Claremont.

MP for South East St Ann, Dr Kenneth Russel, speaking to the North Coast Times, expressed appreciation that piped water had returned to several districts of the constituency. He said the NWC had worked hard to make it possible.

Dr Russell said, however, that he was reminding the NWC that areas with higher elevation that were without running water for months now would still need trucked water until the pump was fully operational.  He named these as areas at higher elevation, such as Barrett Hall, Trysee, Alderton, sections of Lydford Housing Scheme, and Carlton Mountain.

The NWC said last week that when the pump started to work, it would not immediately be at full capacity.
