LADY ALLEN PRAISES LIBERTY LEARNING CENTRE

TRIBUTES AT TENTH ANNIVERSARY DINNER HIGHLIGHT VISION, EXCELLENCE, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

The first ten years of Liberty Learning Centre (LLC) in St Mary have been marked by visionary, courageous leadership that has made excellence a habit at the institution.

This was the common thread of sentiments in tributes by speakers led by Her Excellency, the Most Honourable Lady Allen at the institution’s 10th anniversary dinner. The event was held at Casa Maria Hotel, Port Maria, St Mary on Saturday, December 14, 2024. The event, (previously reported on by the North Coast Times LIBERTY LEARNING CENTRE CELEBRATES 10 YEARS ) continues to be spoken about in the school at Tower Isle, St Mary and in the wider community. The occasion also saw supporters of the school being recognized for their contributions over the years.

Lady Allen said the ten years for the school was an “incredible milestone”  and bore witness to the transformative power of education. She said it was a “remarkable achievement”  that the school that started with 17 children now had more than 440 young learners. Lady Allen said LLC’s “dedication to delivering quality education…has made a truly positive impact on St Mary and surrounding communities.”

She commended the school for fostering academic excellence, character development, and holistic growth. This she said was evidenced “by your success as a top performing school in the arts and your outstanding achievement in extracurricular activities.”

Lady Allen said LLC’s successes in the JCDC competitions were truly “phenomenal”. She said the school’s performance in physical activities, debate, music, and exploits of the school band were very important to the development  of students.

Lady Allen said Jamaica was becoming a society where values were replaced by things and many no longer valued character. In that context, she praised the work of LLC and said people of St Mary could be assured that in addition to the academic excellence fostered the students “get the values they need to make them men and women of tomorrow”.

HABIT OF EXCELLENCE

In commenting on the school’s leadership, she said: “Let us not forget that the work of this institution is a collective effort…It is a collaboration [among] dedicated educators, committed parents, and the community at large. It is a reflection of the belief that  whenever we invest in our children  we invest in the future of Jamaica.”

She said the journey of the school has been filled with  achievement and “consistently high academic performance.” She too mentioned the impressive extracurricular activities, embracing sport and culture at LLC.
