Vaz Calls Some Driving “Absolute Madness” after 4 Killed On Roads in Less Than 24 Hours

Two people from St Ann are dead following a three-vehicle crash on the Queen’s Highway, between Discovery Bay and the St Ann Border with Trelawny.
The dead are: 37-year-old Cordia Walters, a bartender of Salem, Runaway Bay, and Joel Treasure, a lifeguard of Bamboo, St Ann.
At least five others were injured and treated at Falmouth Hospital, according to reports to the North Coast Times.
Minister of Transport Daryl Vaz has described as “absolute madness” the type of driving that has led to the two deaths among four that took place between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, August 11 and 12.
The other two road deaths took place in Manchester.
The St Ann crash occurred on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at approximately 6:20 p.m.
The accident involved three motor vehicles, namely: a white 1993 Toyota Corolla motor car, a white 2019 Toyota Probox motor car and a white 2014 Toyota Voxy motor car.
According to police, the driver of the white 1993 Toyota Corolla motor car was travelling eastbound in the direction of Runaway Bay when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The Toyota Corolla subsequently collided with the front-right section of the white 2014 Toyota Voxy motor car, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Toyota Voxy reportedly swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision; however, the Toyota Corolla collided with the Voxy, causing major damage.
The Corolla spun around after the driver lost control. The rear section of the Toyota Corolla then collided with the front-right section of the white 2019 Toyota Probox motor car, which was travelling westbound towards Falmouth. As a result of the collision, the Toyota Probox was extensively damaged, especially to its entire front section.
The white 1993 Toyota Corolla also sustained extensive damage to its entire rear section.
“As a result of the collision, seven persons sustained injuries, three of whom were occupants of the Toyota Corolla and were deemed to have sustained very serious injuries.”
The driver of the white 1993 Toyota Corolla motor car was warned for prosecution for Careless Driving. He was subsequently transported to the Falmouth Hospital by a passing motorist for medical attention.
Police investigations are being conducted by Cpl Nevers of the Discovery Bay Traffic Department.
