YC, BROWN’S TOWN FALTER AS CEDRIC GOES TOP

Annotto Bay Take Lead As Tacky, Technical Have Crucial Matches

(Kemari Hunter of York Castle. His last gap goal may yet prove crucial to the Zone)

Things are nicely poised in Zone ‘C’ among St Ann and Trelawny Teams in the daCosta Cup as Cedric Titus with their second win opened up space between themselves and the top two St Ann teams — York Castle and Brown’s Town, Friday. Ocho Rios and William Knibb are close behind, having won one match a piece.

The Brown’s Town Derby drew a fair-sized crowd to Addison Park where earlier in the week Brown’s Town had put down William Knibb, to lay claim to one of the spots in the Inter Zone.

In a game that saw both teams unable to score up to the 80th minute, Brown’s Town broke the deadlock through a scorcher close to the edge of the box, from their captain #7, Raheem Brown.

Brown’s Town were dominating the game although their #10 often playing to the gallery caused pressure on the backline.

The skies opened up and with no covered stands spectators took a pelting but stayed with it. Brown;’ Town seemed to be home if wet. Then in stoppage time, with Brown’s Town losing concentration, York Castle’s Kemari Hunter put a powerful, well-placed one over the top, leaving the Brown’s Town custodian stranded only able to watch as the ball went over his outstretched arm and dip into the goal.

York Castle’s supporters, including their Principal and support staff, danced and shouted as if they had won the match.  A few minutes later the game ended with each taking a point.

Both Coaches were dissatisfied. Coach Tyrone Codner of Brown’s Town said he had been instructing his players to stay home (in their half) and shut out the match but they had a concentration lapse.

Coach Danie Clarke of York Castle told The North Coast Times that he was “relieved” as the scores turned out. He said, “this was a big game for most of the kids.” Mr Clarke said the team played for about 15 to 20 minutes of the game. He said “We have to improve,” for the upcoming games.

Elsewhere in the Zone Aabuthnott Gallimore picked up three points with a 2-0 win over Discovery Bay. Ocho Rios High were brought back to earth after their smashing of minnows Discovery Bay,  as Cedric Titus beat them 2-1 . That left Cedric with maximum six points.

Here’s a piece of the action at D’Bay, with Aabuthnott Gallimore attacking.

Tamed by Brown’s Town Tuesday, William Knibb came out in smashing form to beat Ferncourt 10-0 at Drax Hall. Knibb now have three points.

ST MARY

St Mary High rebounded Friday from their shock defeat to Wycliffe Martin when they hammered Iona High 8 goals to nil at Highgate, St Mary.

Jevaugh Robertson  and Kahleem Rose each scored two, while Oraldo Robinson, Ricardo Gray, Davion Mignott and Khalel Dixon all scored one each.

Elsewhere in  Zone ‘I’, Annotto Bay High continued their perfect form smashing Carron Hall 9-0 at Annotto Bay. Annotto Bay are now on six points, after their earlier win over Iona, topping the Zone.

There are important matches Saturday. It’s a must win for St Mary Technical if they are to have a chance of advancing out of the Zone. They suffered a bruising loss 0-3 to Horace Clarke earlier in the week. They  go to Wycliffe Martin who are laying well, at Bailey’s Vale.

Tacky could join Annotto Bay at the Zone leaders if they can put down Horace Clarke who were winners over St Mary Technical earlier in the week. Tacky know their 8-0 victory over Carron Hall was no real test of their vaunted strength.
