VARIOUS PROJECTS INCLUDING ROADS, DRAINAGE AND COMMUNITY BUILDINGS GET ATTENTION ACROSS THE PARISH

Residents of Portland rallied in their communities with various Labour Day projects, including repairs to roadways, schools, and community infrastructure, on Monday, May 25, 2026.
The parish project, undertaken by the Portland Municipal Corporation at Carder Park in Port Antonio, involved the construction of a ticket booth with hand-washing facilities and electrical outlets for the convenience of users of the complex. Raymond Grant, Chief Engineer at the Corporation, was on hand to supervise that project.

Residents of Stony Hill, Port Antonio, were initially hampered by heavy early morning showers and had to seek shelter when they started to clean the drain and fill the potholes. But they returned to complete their project in the afternoon.
The community of Nonsuch worked on a hard court that was largely completed before Labour Day but still required ramps for people with disabilities and proper edges to facilitate run off.

At Kildare, near Buff Bay, residents on Reservoir Road came out to repair their road, which had suffered years of neglect. Austin Bartley, one of the volunteers helping to lay sand and aggregates as well as concrete for the surface, thanked MP Daryl Vaz and Councillor Rohan Vassel for contributing the sand, stone, and cement for the project. “The road was in terrible condition, so we appreciate the help,” Bartley said.
At Boundbrook in Port Antonio, the entrance to the Boundbrook Basic School and Boundbrook Pavilion was fitted with a drain pipe to help with the flow of water in the area.
