St Mary video-taping murder to be heard in July

The case file is now complete in the murder case of a St Mary farmer.

The man, who reportedly stabbed the farmer to death following a dispute over a videotaping incident, is to return to court on July 27, for the hearing into the case.

Alrick Haynes is the man charged with the murder of fifty-three-year-old farmer, Fredrick Lewis, otherwise called ‘Chupsy’ of Heywood Hall, St. Mary on December 31, 2015.

Haynes appeared before the St Mary Parish Court on Thursday, March 30.

While a hearing date was set, Haynes’ legal representation was also settled in the matter as he is now being represented by attorney Veroneeth McKenzie.

Haynes’ bail was extended by senior parish judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller.

Reports are that on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 1:30 a.m., Lewis and another man were involved in a dispute with the accused, Haynes, in Heywood Hall, St. Mary. Haynes was allegedly videotaping both men. Some objection was taken towards this and Lewis and the other man hit the accused several times. It is alleged that a knife was used by Haynes to stab Lewis multiple times. Lewis was taken to the hospital where he died while being treated.

Haynes later turned himself in at the Port Maria police station and was charged with Lewis’ murder.

His attorney at the time had explained to the court on Thursday, January 14, 2016, when bail was granted, that Haynes was defending himself and highlighted that he also was attacked by Lewis and another man.

He was granted bail in the sum of $200,000.charged
