St Mary man succumbs to injuries after crashing into bamboo

While several residents suspect foul play in the death of a labourer from the Islington community, the St Mary police are maintaining that the man died from injuries he received in a fatal crash.The crash took place on the Quebec main road in the parish on Tuesday, May 31.Dead is 38-year-old Kevin Belnavis, a labourer of Islington, St Mary. According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) information arm – the Corporate Communitions Unit (CCU), preliminary investigations indicate that about 9:50 p.m., on Tuesday night, Belnavis was driving a Toyota Corolla motor car heading towards Islington, when he lost control of the motor vehicle.

The vehicle then collided with bamboo that was on the soft shoulder and then crashed into an embankment on the opposite side of the road.Belnavis was transported to the hospital.However, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, June 1.Several taxi drivers and other residents of the Islington community expressed to The Times, that they believe that Belnavis was murdered based on what they saw at the scene as his head seemed bashed in.However, head of the St Mary police, senior superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, explained that it was not a murder, but a fatal crash. She said Belnavis received injuries after hitting the bamboo.

Belnavis was alone in the car at the time of the crash.
