$10-M bail for conductor of death bus

The conductor who was driving the bus that crashed killing five Friday in St Ann has been offered bail in the sum of $10 million with strict conditions.

Rohan Robinson, 31, of Galina appeared in the St Ann’s Bay Parish Court yesterday (Wed., June 1) where his attorney Ernest Smith made a successful bail application.

He was charged Monday night with five counts of manslaughter as well as driving without a driver’s licence, without insurance and without a road licence.

Robinson’s lawyer, Ernest Smith turned him in Sunday night, following Friday morning’s crash near Laughlands that killed five and sent nine people to hospital. Smith said Robinson could take up bail by weekend.

Robinson’s bail offer comes with strict conditions including a stop order, a curfew requiring him to be at home between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. In addition a stop order has been placed on him at all ports and airports.

Police have confirmed they are to charge the woman constable who owns the 2007 12-seater Golden Dragon bus that was said to be carrying 15 people when it crashed at Laughlands Friday morning about 7 o’clock.

She is to be charged for operating the bus without insurance and road licence.
