ST MARY CIRCUIT COURT OPENS WITH LONG LIST OF CASES

A total of fifty-six (56) cases are down to be tried, as the St. Mary Circuit Court opened on Monday, March 2, 2015.

Of the fifty-six matters, 20 are cases for the Circuit Court, or matters involving juries, while 3 will be tried in the Gun Court for which jurors are not required. Deputy director of public prosecution Sharon Moore said six more gun related cases are to be added.Before the court commenced its initial sitting, a brief ceremony took place which involved Justice Evan Brown inspecting the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) parade. Mr Justice Brown. in addressing the court, alluded to the successful sitting of the St. Mary Circuit Court when he presided in 2011. He said he was looking forward to another successful sitting of the court.He also acknowledged the passing of Queen’s Counsel, Glen Cruickshank and highlighted his contribution to the justice system. Mr Cruickshank was at outstanding lawyer, famer and businessman who spent a great deal of his time in St Ann.In addition,Mr Justice Brown urged jurors to actively participate in the system and their full cooperation was needed in working towards an efficient justice system.Many of the cases mentioned in the initial sitting involved sexual offenses including rape, illegal possession of firearm, attempted wounding and murder.Among those cases mentioned was Robert Nicholson who is charged for malicious destruction of property, larceny and extortation. Nicholson has not completed his legal representation. His matter was placed on the trial list and will be heard on Thursday, March 5, as Justice Brown gave him time to sort out his legal representation.Delton Tulloch is charged for illegal possession of a firearm. His case is set for mention on March 5.Lincoln Crossdale is also charged with illegal possession of firearm. He was remanded back into custody and his case is set to mention on March 5.
