2 JAMAICANS RETURNED WITH J$10 M (EQUIVALENT) CONCEALED
A St Ann woman is one of two Jamaicans charged with breaches under the Proceeds of Crime Act, after US$70,000 was seized from them at the Norman Manley International Airport, Kingston.
Charged are 34-year-old Randy-Kay Blair a cosmetologist of Harrison Town, St. Ann, and 44-year-old Deno Baker, a mason of Old Harbour, St. Catherine. Each of the two was carrying more than US$30,000, or a total of over J$10 million, concealed in their luggage
The two have been charged with: possession of criminal property; cross-border movement of funds; bringing criminal property into Jamaica; concealing criminal property, and conspiracy to bring criminals into Jamaica
Reports are that at about 5:40 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, Barker and Blair arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport on a flight from the Providenciales, Turks and Caicos.
During security procedures anomalies were observed in both their luggage. As a result, a search was conducted of both their luggage, which led to the discovery of US$39,828.00 and US$30,460.00 in Baker’s and Blair’s luggage respectively.
The money was concealed in jars with hair products.
Baker and Blair were subsequently taken into custody. Following a question-and-answer session
in the presence of their attorneys, they were charged on Friday, March 15 by detectives assigned
to the Narcotics Police Division.
They are scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on Thursday, March 21.
