RESIDENTS BEAT, CHOP COWARD TO DEATH

VIOLENT END TO TERROR IN ST ANN DISTRICT

Residents of Blackstonage District, Moneague, St Ann, beat and chopped to death a man who they say had been terrorizing them over the last several days.

Dead is 37-year Orando Coward, also called Teo,  unemployed of Gray Wood, Moneague, St. Ann

It is reported that he had been accused of raping a 14-year-old, abducting an infant, and threatening residents with guns.

Police report that on Thursday, March 14, Coward armed with a shotgun and a homemade handgun went to the house of a woman in Castle Kelly, Blackstonage. He smashed the window to the house, entered the dwelling and held onto the woman’s eight-year-old daughter, and demanded sexual favours.

The mother fought off the attacker and regained her daughter. However, it is reported that Coward took the woman’s two-year-old son and ran away with him into bushes.

A manhunt was launched and the baby was rescued from his attacker with the assistance of Coward’s girlfriend.

It is further reported that about 9:20 a.m., Friday, March 15, Coward returned to the home he had broken into before. There he held other residents at gunpoint. The residents confronted him and one of them used a machete to hit a shotgun out of his hand. Coward then pointed a homemade handgun at them.

Some of the residents, in fear for their lives, ran away while others tried to apprehend him when he pointed the handgun at them. During the process, he received chop wounds to the upper region of his body.

Coward was later found unresponsive in a small stream nearby. One shotgun and one homemade handgun were also recovered from him.

The Moneague police are investigating.

Police said that on Wednesday, March 13, Coward abducted and raped a 14-year-old girl in the said community. He also threatened to continue to create havoc in the community if the matters were reported to the police.

After the rape was reported, the  St  Ann  Police said they carried out several operations in the community, the last of which was on Thursday, March 14, 2024, to apprehend the suspect.
