THANKSGIVING SERVICE FOR FORMER ST ANN’S BAY PRIMARY TEACHER
Educator, church, and community leader Rema Elizabeth Nelson was laid to rest following a Thanksgiving service on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Liberty Baptist Church in Saint Ann.
Mrs Nelson died on January 22. She was 85. She taught at St Ann’s Bay Primary School for more than three decades.
Among those paying tribute was Dalas Dickenson, Chairman of the St. Ann’s Bay Primary School Board. He described Mrs Nelson as a community leader, educator, and one who served with dignity and humility. He said that she impacted many lives including his when she taught him in 1966.

In eulogizing the late Rema Elizabeth Nelson, Dr Collete Smith, niece, said that she was a beacon in the Church and the education sector.
She said that Mrs Nelson was a leader and one who devoted her time to her family with love and compassion.
Reverend Karen Kirlew delivered the sermon. In her message, she described the late Rema Nelson as a beacon, someone with humility, who focused on Christ and not temporary issues. Reverend Kirlew said the life and legacy of Rema Nelson should be celebrated.
Musical tributes in songs were performed by the Jamaica Public Service where
Karen Nelson, daughter of Mrs Nelson is employed. Other tributes came from Liberty Baptist Church Women’s Federation; Elfreda Smith, niece of the deceased, and Berisford Nelson, a relative.
Glen Nelson and Deacon Lorna Broderick read the lessons.
Prayer of Thanksgiving and intercession was done by Reverend Andrew Gordon of the St. Ann’s Bay Circuit of Baptist churches.
