IAN BELL, PNP

BEECHER TOWN DIVISION, St Ann Municipal Corporation

Ian Bell is a fighter. He is not afraid to take on any challenge or personality in providing representation and getting benefits for his people.

That’s why many were not surprised when, at the opening of a new road in Epworth in the Beecher Town Division in April 2023, Mr Bell a PNP Councillor, approached the Prime Minister. Mr Bell told Andrew Holness about the lack of water and the need for attention to  the people of Epworth in particular

Prime Minister Holness reportedly gave his commitment to the proposed water scheme.

Mr Bell has represented the Beecher Town Division, in the St Ann Municipal Corporation, since 2007.

He says that the fighting approach has yielded major roadworks

  • Coyaba to the border of Pimento Walk
  • Mile End through Hyatt’s Field to Dunnsville — with Local Government Assistance
  • Beecher Town to the intersection of Epworth –with TEF assistance
  • From Hinds Town to Franklyn Town and from Beecher Town to Parry Town completed — with SAMC  funding

Some roadways improved are structures that were not maintained or even completed when he first became Councillor.

Mr Bell says he would have done even more but in the last Council administrative period, he couldn’t count on the support of MP Lisa Hanna.

He says throughout his service he lobbied and got repaired 215 street lights and installed 25 others.

Repairs were done to 13 wayside tanks. Major rehabilitation of the  Beecher Town and Epworth catchment tanks was done. He said, “These need urgent attention which will come early in the next term.”

Mr Bell says that when he took responsibility for the division there was no running water in Parry Town. He said at Hyatt’s Field people have access to clean water after a spring was entombed.

. “I was able to enjoy the sight of an energised pipeline in Lime Skill in Union,” he said.

But his battles are not done yet. Mr Bell says that despite his lobbying, adequate water supply is still needed in Beecher Town, Franklyn Town, and Hinds Town.  “We need running water and I’m going to pressure NWC for it,” Mr Bell says

Mr Bell says he is confident of victory. He says: “I know that when you are a fighter and love the people and have the love of the people on your side they will reward you.”

NATALEE WILMOT, JLP

BEECHER TOWN DIVISION, St Ann Municipal Corporation

Young businesswoman Natalee Wilmot says she is stepping forward to do for the Beecher Town Division what the PNP Councillor for the last x years hasn’t been able to do.

Ms Wilmot is seeking to represent the Beecher Town Division of South East St Ann in the St Ann Municipal Council. She says the main needs are proper roads and a reliable water supply system.

Explaining why she decided to enter representational politics, Mr Wilmot who hails from Breadnut Hill in the Division, says “I have a love for people, a passion for people and I have seen the needs of the Division.”

She says the needs are widespread across the communities of the Division but especially in Mile End, Beecher Town, Breadnut Hill, Union, Dunnsville, and Colegate.

Ms Wilmot says she wants to address those needs, as well as get opportunities for training and recreation to the Division.

Ms Wilmot says she knows she can depend on the support of the JLP Administration to make the changes she has been waiting to see and that has not happened.

She said now that she has taken to the roads and the communities she is even more convinced of how widespread the needs are.

Asked why she thought she could do what another Councillor, well known,  had not been able to do over several years, she said “It has not been done. The Councillor is the one responsible. With the help of my Prime Minister and My MP and the Council, I will be lobbying to make the changes.”

She said there is a need for a proper, functioning recreational centre in the Division. She said such as exist are under-resourced.

“We need a proper training centre in the Division where we could even bring in HEART Trust for different programmes to get people certified,” she says.

Ms Wilmott says she is confident of victory. She said she has done the work in explaining to people what changes she wants to bring. “The people welcome me, they love me they embrace me,” she said. “They are tired, they are fed up they want a change.”
