PT ANTONIO PRIMARY ONE MILLION DOLLARS RICHER

PAST STUDENT NCB CEO MICHAEL LEE-CHIN GIVES MONEY PLUS ADVICE

A famous, wealthy past student of Port Antonio Primary School came calling at the institution in Portland on Thursday, December 7. When he left, the school was one million dollars richer.

Chairman of National Commercial Bank (NCB) and CEO of Portland Holdings, Michael Lee-Chin a native of Portland visited his alma mater Port Antonio Primary, and handed over not just $1 million but also advice to the students at the school. Some of them received vouchers to start accounts at the bank.

Most of the money,  six hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($650,000) came from the bank and $350,000 from the NCB Foundation.

Lee-Chin told the students and teachers he was honoured and privileged to be back. He said he remembered where he sat and his teachers when he was nine years old at the school.

“When I was your age, at nine I was in that classroom over there, Ms. Henry’s class, and behind the classroom was a drain and in this courtyard here I used to play marbles,” Mr Lee-Chin said.

He told the students that when he was there in 1961 “I was just like you, enthusiastic, [I] had big dreams and my dream was to be a business person. I was like you and my family never had nothing. Keep your dreams, aim high to be the best in the world. Start working hard now; wake in the morning and prepare yourself for the day. Listen when you come to school and don’t get distracted but focus on what the teacher is saying. Pay attention and when you get home, study.”

Acting Principal Teri-Ann Palmer noted that Mr Lee-Chin shared his recipe for success with the students. She said, “His words were well-received and the entire Port Antonio Primary School expressed gratitude for such a generous display of goodwill.”

Mr Lee Chin was accompanied by the CEO of the NCB Foundation, Thalia Lyn, and other members of the Foundation.

Ten (10) students received vouchers to open their starter accounts with NCB.
