PORTLAND TEAMS HAVE ADVANTAGE, ST MARY MIXED, ST ANN DOWN

D’CUP INTER-ZONE ROUND TRELAWNYTEAMS DRAW

(Twayne Lopez has handed Port Antonio a fighting chance)

The two teams from Portland have turned out favourable results and have the advantage going into the return matches, following victories over Mannings and Ocho Rios respectively.

Port Antonio beat Mannings 1-0 and Happy Grove came from behind to beat Ocho Rios 2-1,

Of the three St Mary teams to be in this second (Inter-Zone) round, two suffered losses — St Mary High and Horace Clarke, and Tacky came away with a draw against Cedric Titus.

St Mary High suffered a heavy 0-8 defeat on the day 0-7 to Garvey Maceo at Annotto Bay,  and are almost surely out with the return match away, in Clarendon.

The two Trelawny teams Ceric Titus and William Knibb had draws against Tacky High and Central High respectively.

Horace Clarke went down 0-2 to Dinthill at Annotto Bay. Neville Reid, Coach of the Islington-based Horace Clarke said his team played well against a better side. He told The North Coast Times this was possibly Horace Clarke’s best match but simple errors cost them the game. He said. “We are going to be working on those errors and come out match blazing in the return leg [away].”

(Formalities before the Drax Hall match between Happy Grove and Ocho Rios)

In the Ocho Rios v Happy Grove game, watched by The North Coast Times at Drax Hall, Ocho Rios have no one to blame but themselves for the loss. They got chances aplenty in the first stanza and should have been up by at least four goals rather than the 1-0 lead at half-time.  Happy Grove who played defensively in the first half roared back to beat the Ocho Rios team playing at home. They have an uphill battle at Carder Park where Portland teams usually pull a good crowd.

Port Antonio High, playing before a big crowd at Carder Park, beat Mannings 1-0 through a goal from Twayne Lopez in the 80th minute. Port Antonio take a 1-0 advantage to Westmoreland on Wednesday.
