HEAT IN ST ANN COUNCIL

SHOUTING, ACCUSATIONS, DISAGREEMENT OVER  SEVERAL ISSUES

There was shouting, sharp allegations and flared tempers in the October General Meeting of the St Ann Municipal Corporation (SAMC).

One big issue for debate that upset councillors of both the Minority PNP and the Majority JLP was the announcement of a decision that the police would no longer attend general meetings.

The police head for the parish normally attends the monthly general meeting to report on crime and traffic matters for St Ann. Councillors generally ask questions or request police action in their divisions and so on.

No one could explain who had taken the decision for the police to attend committee meetings instead.

Then there was also a row about how $7 million had been allocated to the Brown’s Town division for water.

Matters were already heated when Councillor Ian Bell lashed out at the CEO Jennifer Brown Cunningham over her attitude to councillors. He claimed she had made uncomplimentary references about all 16 of them in a meeting the previous day, Thursday, October 12.
