POLICE ISSUE ADVICE TO MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC

PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release

August 18, 2018 – The Police is aware of a voice note being circulated on social media making reference to motorists being allegedly stopped by persons dressed as Officers, travelling in an unmarked vehicle with blue lights flashing.

Currently there are two reports of such incidents being investigated by the Police. These issues are being treated with the greatest level of importance and urgency and the investigations are ongoing.

The Police High Command is also strongly reminding motorists against installing and using flashing lights and/or sirens on their vehicles.

As such, motorists who have modified their vehicles with flashing lights and/or sirens that imitate those used by authorised emergency vehicles, such as police vehicles, ambulances and fire engines, are being warned to remove them immediately.

Motorists who ignore this warning to remove the devices will not only face inconvenience, but moreso the full brunt of the law, including the seizure of the vehicles to have them removed forthwith.

Investigators are appealing to persons who may have been victims, or who may have information that can assist in the arrest and charge of these perpetrators to contact the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) at 876-937-1389. Persons may also share information through Crime Stop at 311, 811 or Police 119 emergency number.
