Fare hikes on main out-of-parish routes in St Ann, St Mary

Big fare increases are being charged on some routes in St Ann and St Mary and regular night-time bus service removal from some routes means people have to be paying more to robot taxis on some routes.
Reports to the North Coast Times Increased fares are now regular on the Spanish Town to Ocho Rios route where the regulated cost is $350. Commuters are paying up to $500 on buses, especially where the buses use the toll roads. The drivers and conductors often demand the fare from passengers sometimes explaining the cost of the toll.
Most of the buses that properly operate come off the route by 7 or 7:30 p.m. even under the State of Emergency and then people have to pay between $700 and $1,000 on illegal taxis. People have been asking for weeks whether the buses have any set time to operate. Transport Authority inspectors are never seen on this route
The road work in St Mary on the Junction has led to fare increases on the Annotto Bay to Kingston route. Work on the road from the junction in the area of Broadgate has resulted in additional miles and time to the trip and has forced operators on rougher roads, through Clonmel, Highgate and Roichmond.
Some have hiked fares 100 percent, moving it from $250 to $500 while some operators charge $350 and $400, outside peak hours.
