LOVERS’ DRAMA PLAYED OUT IN COURT

RM rejects argument that knife was for work

Sweetheart has to pay for assaulting wife

People attending court in St. Ann’s Bay on Thursday, September 4, tried hard to control themselves from bursting into laughter as a case of love drama was being heard in court.

Resident Magistrates Andrea Thomas tried for the parties to be as secretive as possible, so that their personal business would not be all out in public.

The case involved a husband and wife, Joan and Junior Scott and a woman who, apparently, was Junior’s sweetheart Sherlene Williams.

Williams was charged for assaulting the man’s wife, Joan. It’s also alleged that the husband, Junior Scott was assaulted by Williams, however, no charged was laid against her in relation to the husband.

The case brought laughter to the court room and police on more than one occasions had to ask those inside the court to be quiet.

The parties reportedly had a fight at a popular entertainment and food spot in Discovery Bay, St. Ann. Williams said she was also injured in the fight and said the man’s wife should have been charged.

She said she was held by her arms by Junior and the wife allowed to assault her. At one point the woman, lifted her dress in an attempt to show the magistrate an injury to her leg. (Blurb)  “No you can’t do that, Ma’am, that is inappropriate,” RM Thomas told her.

RM Thomas was concerned about things that would come out in open court, as in a previous court hearing, and a probation officer was asked to intervene, when the parties said they wanted the issue to be resolved amicably.

The matter was stood down. When the case resumed, it was revealed that Williams would compensate the man’s wife. Seven thousand was agreed to in addition to a public apology from Williams.

Williams asked the court for time to pay. She is to return to court on Thursday, September 11 to pay over the money and tender her apology.
