The Great Pond Basic School, Ocho Rios, St Ann is one of the oldest in the parish and continues its efforts in giving a good foundation to young children who attend. Started in 1945 by Veronica Green and Glaston Bryan, the institution is privately owned and now has fifty six students on roll.Sandra Bailey-Gordon, principal of the institution for thirty one years, told the Times that she was motivated by the former principal Miss Pinnock to take the job offer because she saw the leadership skills and potential in her. It’s a task she now enjoys tremendously. She lauded her teachers, ancillary staff and parents for their support throughout the years. The students are exposed to reading, phonics, physical education, social graces among other skills and attitudes, is guided by the curriculum of the Early Childhood Commission. The parents are required to pay a minimal ancillary fee that goes towards insurance, PTA, test papers, physical education gear, and registration fee.
