St Ann’s Bay infant boasts of highly qualified staff and accomplished past students

St. Ann’s Bay Basic School opened its doors in 1940 at its present location, 24 Edge Hill Road , St Ann’s Bay. The institution is a Government institution with two hundred and forty two (242) students on roll.Esther Henry, principal of the institution for the past two years, has served as a teacher at the institution for twenty three years, and a total of thirty six years in the education sector. She explained to The Times that she has a passion for children.Seeing them excel at the various stages makes me happy,” she said. She commended her teachers and ancillary staff for their level of professionalism and team spirit in making the school a success. She further stated that all teachers are trained at the college level with diplomas and first degrees in teaching.Yolanda Beckford and Jodeen Joseph, two of the school’s past students, are among the teaching staff, providing quality education to children. Great personalities such as sprinter Nickel Ashmeade and Andre Brown, financial analyst at National Commercial Bank Capital Market are also products of the school.The children of the St Ann ’s Bay Basic School are guided by the Early Childhood Commission’s curriculum which includes social graces, phonics, reading, physical education and writing, among others. While the school works to continue achieving success, Henry implores the parents and guardians to play a more active role in the development of their children.
