IMPOSED AFTER 2 MURDERS, GROWING TENSIONS, FEAR
Curfews have been imposed in sections of St Mary following two murders in the parish on Monday, February 9, growing tension, unrest, and “heightened fear of crime” in parts of the parish.
The curfews took effect Tuesday evening at 6, and remain in place until Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The areas affected are the same ones that were under curfew which lasted 96 hours, two weeks ago, on which the North Coast Times reported.. They are:
-
Sections of Boscobel and Stewart Town, located within the Oracabessa Police Area;
-
Sections of the Robins Bay and Nutfield communities, located in the Islington Police area of St. Mary.
-
Sections of the Free Hill, Oxford, and Geddes Town communities, located within the Port Police area of St. Mary
The police release, outlining the curfews, lists “growing tension” and threats to public order in the areas under curfew. Specifically, for the Oracabessa area, it says:
ORACABESSA
“The area is frequented by individuals involved in criminal activities who operate between the Oracabessa and Port Maria policing areas and [the area] is in close proximity to Stewart Town and Gully Road, which are among several areas of concern within the Oracabessa policing space.”

PORT MARIA
In the case of the Port Maria area, the police say: “This curfew has been implemented in response to growing tension and unrest within the affected communities, which has heightened fear among residents and threatens public order.”
Residents within the curfew zone are reminded that all persons must remain inside their premises during the curfew period unless otherwise authorized by the police.
