Assistance Includes House Repairs, Material Distribution, Establishing and Outfitting Retail Business

BROWN’S TOWN, St Ann; June 16, 2026

Councillor for the Brown’s Town Division in the St Ann Municipal Corporation, Kim Brown Lawrence, says the work to assist people who suffered significant loss from Hurricane Melissa can’t stop.

Since November 2025, backed by a foundation and private donations, she has provided assistance to dozens of people in various districts of her division, including Standfast, Orange Hill, Muirhouse, Middle Buxton, Liberty Valley, Wilberforce, Alma, Benin, Goshen, and Woodland Alva.

Many individuals, even from St Ann, are unaware that scores of people suffered major losses from Hurricane Melissa in the main towns in the south and northwest of the parish.

Main sponsors are Huntley Brown Foundation and IsleGo Mission.

Councillor Brown told the North Coast Times:

“Since November, we have helped with more than 3,000 sheets of zinc, 5,000 care packages, 1,000 sheets of tarpaulin, provided 30 full roofs, constructed 25 full ply houses, along with countless building materials.”

Some of the assistance has included repairs to houses damaged by the hurricane and the building of small housing units for people who lost everything.

Lately, she and her team have been getting people back on their feet to earn by physically building structures to serve as shops or providing refrigerators and even supplies for retail establishments (shops).

Mr Hewitt Underhill is one of the latest to receive shop and supplies. He made a request to start a shop and the team built a shop, provided goods, and even a freezer last week. All building materials, workmen, goods, and a freezer were donated through the Huntley Brown Foundation.

The work on houses is the most visible of the assistance. The Foundation has a team of eight men doing construction work six days of the week.

Asked why she has not made the ongoing work known, Lawrence, a businesswoman, said she prefers action over talk.
