ANIMAL PUT TO DEATH TOO, IN ST ANN
A St Ann farmer is believed to have been gored to death by his bull in the Drax Hall area of St Ann.
Police believe the incident happened between Monday and Wednesday, January 1-3
Dead is Keith Allen, about 60, of Brown’s Town. His demise has been described by police as death by misadventure.
It is reported that the farmer Keith Allen was in the wooded area of Drax Hall, searching for his bull on New Year’s Day.
On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, about 7:00 am, another farmer from Windsor District was on his way to his farm when he stumbled on a body.
The police responded and on their arrival, the body of Allen was seen lying on its back in a cornfield at a lot in Drax Hall Estate.
The body was ripped in two.
(This is NOT the animal involved in the incident)
The body had what appeared to be a wound to the right side of its chest and another wound to the right side of the groin. A pair of black water boots and a length of rope were seen close to the body. A brown bull with no rope on it was seen about one hundred feet away from the body. The corn trees around the body appeared to be eaten down by the bull and the area where the body was seen appeared to be trampled by the bull.
Police processed the scene and the body was removed.
The Jamaica Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) was contacted and one of its officers and a chief veterinary surgeon visited the scene. On their instructions, the brown bull was put to sleep after a prescribed licenced firearm holder, on the instruction of the veterinary surgeon.
