Cops Searching For Others In Death Of Taxi Man
Negus DaCosta slain
A taxi operator in St. Mary has been charged for the murder of another taxi man in the parish.
Dead is 34-year-old Negus DaCosta, taxi operator of Oxford district, St. Mary.
Charged is 35-year-old Barrington Matthews Jr. of Boggogee, Jacks River in the parish.
The North Coast Times reported on its website and Facebook Page Tuesday
that DaCosta was killed after he was accused of raping a teenage relative of another taxi operator. That operator had reportedly turned himself into police after DaCosta was chased, his car crashed and he was chopped.
Here is the latest CCU report, issued Thursday, Aug 24:
“Police reports are that about 4:10 p.m. on August 16, Matthews and other relatives boarded a Toyota Probox motor vehicle and went to Oracabessa, crossroads where he confronted DaCosta who was accused of
sexually assaulting a teenaged girl. It is alleged that DaCosta fled in a motor car and was chased
by Matthews and his relatives.
“The car chase ended in Eden Park, Jacks River in St. Mary, where an altercation developed between Matthews and DaCosta, during which DaCosta was chopped.
The Police were summoned and the injured man was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced
dead.
“Matthews was subsequently arrested and charged with murder following a question-and-answer
session.”
The police say they are seeking the other suspects involved in the incident. Investigations continue.
