OPPOSITION CONDEMNS ROBBERY AT FDR

PNP Says It Hurts Country’s Reputation As Safe And Hospitable

The Opposition People’s National Party is describing as alarming and brazen the incident at the FDR Resort on Jamaica’s North Coast, before daylight Friday morning, June 23.

Gunmen entered the family all-inclusive resort, at Runaway Bay, St Ann, and held up a night auditor and robbed an undetermined amount of money. Police said the amount was “small”. The departing gunmen also held up a tourist couple at the gate of the resort but got nothing from them.

In its statement over the signature of Spokesperson on Tourism Senator Janice Allen, the Opposition said it “vehemently condemns the brazen robbery that took place at the FDR all-inclusive hotel in Runaway Bay, St Ann.”

It said further this “alarming incident highlights the need to arrest the country’s runaway crime problem.”

According to the PNP statement: “These criminals invaded a place that should provide comfort and relaxation for guests on our island.” It said it was relieved that no one was harmed during the “distressing ordeal.”

In calling for immediate and comprehensive action from the security forces. Senator Allen said The Police Commissioner’s order for a high-level probe was a step in the right direction.

 

Senator Allen said, “The safety and security of our citizens and visitors are of paramount importance to the tourism industry. Incidents such as this not only threaten the lives and well-being of individuals but also jeopardise Jamaica’s reputation as a safe and hospitable destination.”
