Tacky High School, located in Gayle, St Mary, has continued to show its cricketing prowess, by sharing the title in this year’s National Under-16 cricket competition.

In fact, Tacky’s manager and coach, Sheldon Pryce feels that the team would have won the title if rain had not intervened washing out the match. Tacky had fellow finalists Manchester High at 35 for 5 wickets when the rains came on the first scheduled day and continued through to the second stand-by day, washing out the match. The match was played at Manchester High, Mandeville on Tuesday, June 6.

Tacky High had taken some important scalps in its progress to the finals, including beating St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), a recognized powerhouse in schoolboy cricket.

Early start

In the preliminary round, Tacky High was in the same zone as Ferncourt, Ocho Rios, and Charlemount High Schools and then made it to the next stage where they were  up against Black River, May Day, and Old Harbour high schools.

At the quarter-final level, Tacky went up against Black River May Day and Manchester High. Tacky was beaten by Manchester at that stage.

In the semi-finals at STETHS, Tacky prevailed earning a place in the finals against Manchester High.

They put STETHS to the sword

Coach Sheldon Pryce has been building the team at Tacky High since taking up the mantle in 2018. The former Tacky student now a college-trained teacher and coach is passionate about the game and what it can do for young men. He took the Tacky team to the Headley Cip semis on the 22nd of March, 2023.
